About Ms. Ethos

I teach communication. One of the first rules of presenting information is stating one's ethos. Ethos is the speaker's credibility. Without ethos, the speaker's argument falls moot regardless of any facts or figures presented.

My ethos? I am a first-generation, non-traditional college student who acquired two degrees and now teach young adults the nuances of communication.

I loathe most college preparation books. Most discuss drinking, partying, and living with a roommate, devoting a mere six pages to academics wedged in between two long chapters in the back so that it is easily missed. This could be contributing to the misconceptions most freshmen have about college. Although the aforementioned topics are important and most likely will be addressed in this blog, college is not an expensive on-going toga party. When I couldn't find an adequate college preparation book for my stepchildren, I decided I would write one instead. Obviously, this is not a book. I decided I would provide a public service and a resource to my students at the same time.
